Beaufort Anderson Pope Jr., entered this world in Georgetown, South Carolina on February 9, 1946. He was the oldest of seven siblings born to the union of the late Beaufort Anderson Pope Sr., and Laura Ann Miller.
Beaufort spent his childhood growing up in Andrews, South Carolina and attending Rosemary School from elementary through graduation. His interests were in agriculture, fishing, physical anatomy and sports, particularly football (he was nicknamed “iron man” for his skills at football. He was a hard worker from a very young age. He worked at farming, plowing and working in tobacco worked fields. He also wanted to be a barber.
Beaufort obeyed the gospel at a very young age at the Poplar St. Church of Christ in Andrews, SC. He grew up leading songs, praying and serving the table. He loved to quote scriptures. He served at the 11th St and Muscoy Churches of Christ.
After graduation in 1964 he headed to Richmond, Virginia for a time, where he joined the U. S. Air Force and was eventually stationed at March AFB near Riverside, California. He served honorably with a specialization in water purification and demineralization. During his service at Riverside he met his future wife, Johnnie Mae Knowles. They were married in 1969. To their union was born three sons.
He loved fishing, gardening, and was an avid “Dallas Cowboy” Fan. In his younger days he loved being the life of the party, dancing (He had a style of his own.) and socializing with friends. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his son’s activities in baseball, basketball and football as they were growing up.
Beaufort made his transition on November 10, 2017. He was preceded in death by his father, Beaufort Anderson Pope Sr.; brothers, Jesse Lee Pope, Jonathan Pope, and William Earl Pope. He will be remembered as a loyal loving and trusted father, son, brother, uncle and friend to many.
Beaufort leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Johnnie Mae, Rialto, CA; his mother Laura Ann of Andrews, SC; three sons, Shawn Waymond (Dolly), Rialto, CA; Deontrae Marcus (Madhu) , Colton, CA and Beaufort Vonneal “Von” (Shannon), Apple Valley, CA.; Four grand-daughters, Maliyah and Mia Pope, Rialto, CA; Halo and Mekkah Pope, AppleValley, CA. Two brothers, Randolph (Nathene) Pope and Jule Pope, Andrews, SC.; one Sister, Carolyn Montgomery also of Andrews, SC.; Two sister ‘s in law, Pearlie Pope, Andrews, SC and Sylvia Pope, Philadelphia PA.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
