Douglas Jordan Sr.

September 21, 1950 — June 22, 2018

Douglas Ray Jordan September 21, 1950 - June 22, 2018
Doug, youngest son of Kenneth and Mary, was born and raised in Compton, CA. He graduated from Dominguez High School where he was an award winning cross country runner. When Doug was sixteen his father suddenly died; so he quit school sports and started working as a box boy for McCoy’s Markets. He stayed in the retail market industry where he moved up in rank and worked for Lucky’s and then Albertson’s markets where he retired for medical reasons in 2005.
Doug is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has served in many capacities including going on a 2 year mission to the Southwest Indian Mission where he served the Navajo, Hopi, and White Mountain Apache Indians. He spoke fluent Navaho and grew to love and respect the indigenous peoples of this nation.
Doug was sealed for all time and eternity to Dawn in 1973 at the Los Angeles Temple. They settled down in Long Beach, Ca and began their family. In 1980 Doug moved his family to Fontana, Ca where they raised six children.
Doug was an avid fan of USC football and spent the season watching games and keeping up with the stats. He liked to play baseball, run, scuba dive, and spend time with his sons shooting. He also collected clocks, and old cameras. Christmas was his favorite holiday; he loved to watch Christmas movies all year round because they made him feel good.
Doug made it his life work to joyfully serve the Lord by helping others. He loved being a “secret Santa” even when it wasn’t Christmas. He would often buy extra sandwiches and give to anyone who looked like they could use a bite to eat. Doug loved to serve in the Redlands Temple! He worked there for many years until his body wouldn’t allow him to go.
Doug always had a smile for everyone. He was kind, humble, and compassionate. He was known for his integrity and exemplary moral character. He truly strove to be like Christ.
Doug’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He loved to spend time with them individually and collectively, to celebrate special occasions and accomplishments. He was known for his sense of humor and great ability to crack a good joke. He enjoyed watching the laughter around him.
Doug was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his brothers Kenneth and Walter; his wife, Dawn; 6 children: Christine Cripps (Keith), Kimberly Pontremoli (Tim), Doug Jr. (Annette), Kenneth (Bea), Steven (Shelley), and Katherine Sor (Techlee). 20 grandchildren: Brittany Gunderson (Andrew), Katlyn, Liberty Few (Waylon), Faith, Ryan, Chase (Julia), Skyler, Dominique, Nikolas, Liam, Mariah, Jack, Jace, Matt, Max, Rebecca, Walter, William, Eli, Edward, And 2 great grandchildren, Kahle and Rowan
Memorial is July 7th @ 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Alder building, 7526 Alder Ave. Fontana, CA 92335
