Eliott Smith

August 7, 1943 — May 16, 2019

“Well, it’s time to get my hat.” That was the signal — you knew it was time for Elliott to start heading home.
On Thursday, May 16, Elliott Martin Smith got his hat one last time and made his way home to be with his Creator. With family by his side and with prayers ringing, he passed through the veil and traded this world for the next.
Born August 7, 1943 to Louis Edward and Marjorie Ursula Smith, Elliott graduated from Inkster High School in 1960 and married Josi Hannah in 1963. In 1969, he moved his young family to California where he could pursue his passion for all things motoring year-round. This enthusiasm never waned. He made an indelible mark in the retail automotive industry selling both cars and motorcycles.
He also made a significant impact in the racing world. His modified eliminator, “Soul in Motion” was a fan favorite. He would go to on build a top fuel dragster and would drive his brother Edward’s car “The Artesian” later in his career. Both on and off the track, Elliott always loved talking about cars.
He is survived by his wife Josi and his children; Martin, Sherwin, Sterlen, Aileen, and Brittan as well his many grandchildren. His is also survived by his brothers Lewis, J. Thomas, Larry, Randy and Kevin; and sisters Lynette, Marjorie Patrice, Valere, Karen, Gayle, Marsha, Carla, and Christina. Elliott was blessed to have a large extended family and host of friends. He will be greatly missed.
