Frank Castanon, 75, of Fontana, passed away on April 5, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. He was born to Ysmael and Frances Gonzales on January 24, 1943 in Sacramento, CA and lived the past 47 years in Fontana.
Frank attended Coalinqa Junior High School and went on to graduate high school. He also attended Los Angeles Trade Technical College.
Frank met and married the love of his life, Victoria. Together, they had 5 beautiful children. Frank and Victoria were happily married for 53 years and 3 months.
As a young man, Frank proudly served in the Army for 3 years. Then he joined the Army National Guard and served a span of 22 years. Later Frank became a part of the American Legion of San Francisco. He also was a 3rd degree council 3041 member of the Knights of Columbus. Frank was a good provider to his family and worked at Pomona Valley Community Hospital.
Frank spent time teaching and mentoring kids and proudly coached Little League of Upland. He enjoyed the game and loved to watch Little League World Series. Frank’s hero was the Lone Ranger. He liked watching B rated movies and enjoyed Star Trek. Most of all, Frank loved his family. He was a genuinely great guy who adored his family, respected his country and had a great sense of humor.
Frank is survived by his wife Victoria Castanon; children Michael (Wendy) Castanon, Frances (Byron) Wojciechowski, Evamarie Castanon, Elizabeth Garcia, and Selena Castanon; nine grandchildren, Dylan Castanon, Emily Castanon, Ryan Jackson, Marissa Mares, Maria Mares, Jacquelyn Garcia, Samantha Rico, Kayla Wojciechowski and Jayleen Follins; and two great-grandchildren, Ariella Gomez and Sebastian Garcia. He is also survived by siblings Ysmael Gonzales of Fresno, CA, Joe (Debbie) Gonzales of Texas, Tony Gonzales of San Jose, CA, Eleanor Castanon of Lodi, CA, Sarah Medina of San Jose, CA, Gloria Galdeano of Texas, Maria (Glen) Alquist of Tennessee, and Margie Garcia of Fresno, CA.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents Ysmael and Frances Gonzales, brother George Gonzales, sister Lupe Mercado, and son-in-law Dustin Garcia.
Visitation hours will be 9:30 am to 11:30 am, Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Ingold Funeral and Cremation in Fontana with reflections and memories being shared beginning at 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Preceding the services, Frank will be taken to Riverside National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his fellow servicemen. Ingold Funeral and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
