Herbert Gomez

Herbert D. Gomez, 94, of Fontana, died peacefully at home on January 9, 2018. He was born in Bachiniva, Chihuahua, Mexico on May 13, 1923, moved to Los Angeles in 1925 and became a proud American citizen on September 16, 1988. He is the son of the late Ruth de los Rios and Jesus Gomez. He married Inez Romero on August 9, 1952 and they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Herbert enjoyed his 32 years as a crane operator at Kaiser Steel. His love of reading created a huge book collection. His interest was in WW2, railroads, military aircraft, and steel mills. He enjoyed the many road trips he had with his family and loved talking about growing up in Los Angeles.
He is survived by his loving wife, Inez of 65 years and his children, Ruth Brown of Yucaipa, Herbert Gomez, Jr of Riverside, Rosemary Hixson of Victorville, Roberta Gomez of Colton, Robert Gomez of Fontana, and Rebecca Gomez of Fontana. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and his sister, Stella Cook of Fallen, NV. Herbert is preceded in death by his brother Herasmo "Lamo" Gomez.
