Joseph Dean Binks, 90, of Fontana, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan.
27th, 2024, in Fontana, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Mapleton, Utah on Jan. 17th, 1934 to Joseph Ashton and Mary Binks. He attended Springville High School, home of the Red Devils, graduating in June 1952. After high school, he enlisted in the Army, serving from Nov. 1954 to Oct. 1956. After his service to his country, Dean enrolled at Brigham Young University. He graduated with his bachelors degree and teaching credential in 1962.
Dean met the love of his life, Kathleen (Kathy) Wilson, in 1957. They were married on July 11th, 1957 at the Manti Temple in Utah. Dean and Kathy enjoyed just over 60 years of marriage together. They raised their family of four children, Randy, Kalene, Kelly and MaryBeth, who gave them their 10 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren.
Dean began his teaching career in Utah in Sept.1962. After teaching briefly in Utah, he was offered a teaching position in Fontana, California and began his teaching career at North Tamarind Elementary School. He moved on to Tokay Elementary School and then finally Almeria Middle School, where he retired in Jan. 1992.
Dean and Kathy became "Mom and Pop" to well over 600 boys through the Ettie Lee Homes for Youth, to which they dedicated 44 years of their lives. Dean served
in the Boy Scout Troop at North Tamarind Elementary, where he was also quite
the square dance caller.
Faith and family have always been the core of Dean and Kathy's marriage. He loved his family very much. He gave so much of himself to so many and for so long. Dean will be remembered for the beautiful person he was. He is now reunited with his precious Kathy once again.
Visitation will be 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, Friday, Feb. 9, 2024 at Ingold Funeral & Cremation 8277 Juniper Ave. Fontana, CA 92335. Funeral Service will be 10 am, Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints 7526 Alder Ave. Fontana, Ca 92336. Reception immediately following funeral service. Graveside Service to be 1 pm at Green Acres Memorial Park Mortuary 11715 Cedar Ave. Bloomington, Ca 92316
