Nina Nadine Rotolo
January 16, 1920 – January 23, 2019
Nina Nadine Boatman Rotolo, 99 years and 1 week old, passed away peacefully January 23 in her sleep at her home of 77 years in Fontana.
Nadine was born to Richard Andrew and Verba Shaddy Boatman on January 16, 1920 in Filer, Idaho.
The Boatman’s left Idaho for California in 1923 and settled in Rialto.
Nadine’s father, Richard Andrew Boatman was an expert orchardist and grove manager in the San Bernardino area. Verba was a loving housewife raising and tending to her six children. Earl, Russell, Nadine, John, Mary Elizabeth and Janet.
Nadine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Mariano Rotolo.
Father Richard Andrew Boatman, her mother Verba Shaddy Boatman, brothers Earl, Russell and John. She is survived by her two sisters Mary Elizabeth Miller of Oceanside and Janet Van Meetran of Las Vegas, Nevada and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews of her Boatman siblings.
She is also survived by her two daughters Paula Joan Ayers, and Marie Antoinette Waddingham, son in law William Waddingham, her grandson Steven Ayers, Steve’s wife Tomoko Ayers, grandson Kevin Ayers, great granddaughter Alexia Fast, and great grandson Mitchell Ayers. Nadine graduated from San Bernardino High School in June of 1938. She went on to
work as a long distance telephone operator for Pacific Bell in San Bernardino. Nadine
terminated her employment in August 26, 1942 to prepare for her marriage to
Mariano Rotolo on September 12, 1942.
In 1942 Mariano and Nadine started Rotolo Bros Produce. Mariano responsible for sales and Nadine was the bookkeeper. Some of their oldest and dearest friends and customers were Leo and Cleo Stater. They worked hard side by side to raise their family and grow their business.
Nadine was very active in the Fontana Women’s Club, troop leader in Brownies and Girl Scouts for her daughters.
Mariano was a part of the San Bernardino Civic Light Opera Group and Nadine was an avid supporter of the arts. Nadine and Mariano had the same vocal coach so music was a big part of their lives together. That is also how they met.
Her passion when not working was gardening, gourmet cooking, and baking. They became original patrons with season tickets to the LA Civic Light Opera Group,
Which turned into the LA Music Center. Nadine loved sharing her season tickets with
friends and family for over 60 years.
They went on to start Rotolo Chevrolet in May of 1971 in Fontana on Foothill Boulevard.
Nadine was the Cashier in the beginning and then in charge of payables until 1995.
She and Mariano travelled the world on performance award trips with other top performing Chevrolet Dealers, General Motors Executives, and many Rotary International meetings.
Nadine and her sense of hard work and fashion will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She worked hard, played hard, played fair and lived her life well.
Nadine’s memorial service will be held 10 AM, Tuesday, February 5th, at
