Reggie E. Vargas

Reggie E. Vargas, passed away after a lengthy illness at the age of 84, at home on February 25, 2025,
surrounded by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Inez Vargas, a son Reggie Jr.Vargas (Lorraine) of Jurupa Valley, Jeanell Baldonado (Norbert), Audrey Baldonado (John), Tricia Manzo,(Salvador) of Rancho Cucamonga, as well as his grandchildren: Chrysantha (Elim), Jason (Hope), Marlena(Fred), Samantha (Gerardo), Monica (Shamir), Ceressa, Salvador Jr. (Angelica), and Savannah; Great-grandchildren: Aniyah, Jenna, Jaidyn, Felix, Giana, Nicholas, Adam, Salvador V, Joel, Jaxx, Kai, Andy, Jace,Desi, Rio, Maverick, and Viviana; his siblings; Alfonso Vargas, Sadie Lujan (Roy), Beatrice Flores (Ben),siblings in-law; Dorothy, Velma Martinez (Tino), Ida Alvarado, Teofilo Chacon (Annabelle), Hilda Pena(Bert), and Elizabeth Ortiz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Soledad Vargas, brother, Alex Vargas, sister-in-law,Tina Vargas, brothers-in-law; Armando Alvarado, Tito Ortiz, nephews; John Vargas, George Lujan, and Randy Flores.

Reggie was born on June 12, 1940, in La Madera, New Mexico. He graduated from Ojo Caliente High School where he was an exceptional basketball player and also voted ‘most handsome’. He married the love of his life in 1960 and lived in Colorado and Albuquerque, NM, before moving to California in 1964.He worked at Kaiser Steel in Fontana for 21 years until they closed then he went on to work for AmTrakin Los Angeles for 20 years where he retired at the age of 65.

Reggie cultivated a deep relationship with God and exemplified generosity, love, humility, perseverance,integrity, compassion for all, and he loved Jesus with his whole heart and was an inspiration and example of a Godly man to all who knew him. He was baptized in 1993 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Pomona.

He was a talented wood carver and enjoyed creating beautiful pieces of art in his workshop. Reggie also enjoyed spending time with his family, the outdoors, basketball (especially the Lakers), fishing, hunting, ice-cream, and teaching the children at church about God. He did Missionary work in Peru with his wife and also experienced many leisurely trips. After retirement he spent summers at their vacation home in northern New Mexico where he enjoyed the beauty of the mountains, riding his atv, woodworking,home projects, and visiting on the porch with his childhood friends and numerous extended family. He was especially close to his cousin Ike De Vargas who recently preceded him in death.

A Memorial Service will take place on March 29, 2025, at The Way World Outreach, 398 W. 3 rd St,Pomona at 2:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service to take place at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, with burial at the Seventh-Day Adventist Cemetary in Cañon de Vallecitos, date/time TBD.
