Sara Zavala was born on March 2, 1965 in Mexico City to Enrique Zavala and Lucia Parra. She was the seventh of eight children. She was brought to the United States from Mexico at the age of 9 after the passing of her mother in 1974.
She began her education in the U.S. at Breed Street Elementary School in Los Angeles, CA. She continued her studies at Millikan Junior High School in Sherman Oaks, CA and completed her high school education at Theodore Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles, CA.
She did not stop there, because of her loving and kind spirit. She was filled with so much caring love and strength that it propelled her to help others. So, she continued her education at East Lost Angeles College and earned her degree in nursing in 1983. She began her nursing career as an LVN at General Hospital in East Los Angeles, CA. She found purpose and fulfillment in helping others. She always attended to her patients with care, empathy, and dedication. Her career would end up spanning a total of 29 years of devoted service to the community through nursing.
Sara met Jaime Gonzales and they married in 1991. They were blessed with two of her greatest achievements and joys: Alberto and Christina. She went above and beyond for Alberto, Cristina, and her loved ones. Her family and friends knew her as crazy Sara for her crazy laugh, her wild dances and being the life of the party. She was cheerful, and a helpful soul and always made herself available when it came to family needs, regardless of known or unknown situations.
As time passed, she began a new chapter in her life when she accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was baptized in 2011 by Rev. Jacob A. Rodriguez of Divine Strength Church in Rialto, CA. Sara always carried the Lord in her heart and represented His love in the way she was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She gave her ALL to everyone she loved despite all of the challenges she personally faced and for sacrifices like this we will always remember and miss her dearly.
Sara continued to live her life for Christ until Thursday, June 15, 2023 when she went home to be with our Lord and Savior.
Sara leaves behind her beautiful children Alberto Gonzales and Christina Velazquez-Chong. Along with her 3 precious grandchildren Samantha Gonzales, Seth Velazquez-Chong and Aiden Velazquez Chong.
