Soledad “Shirley” Solis passed away in her home in Fontana, California, on the morning of July 18, 2016 from cancer.
Shirley was born on February 25, 1931 to Narciso and Soledad Gonzalez Almeraz in Deming, New Mexico. Narciso was born in New Mexico and her mother Soledad was born in Mexico. Shirley married Francisco “Hardy” Swartz Solis at the age of 17 and lived in Silver City, New Mexico with her mother-in- law, Jessie Swartz. She moved to California in 1953; first living in San Diego with her sister Pat Salazar and from there, she lived in Los Angeles with her sister-in- law, Mary Taylor. Shirley and Hardy with their children made their residence in San Gabriel, Rowland Heights, La Puente, North El Monte, and Pomona. She and Hardy were divorced in 1980. She met Joseph Uhalley in 1983 and spent 31 years with him, living in Fontana, California, until his passing in 2014. She lived her last months of her life with her daughter and caretaker, Francine Solis;
her son, James Solis and granddaughter, Andrea Guerrero, in Fontana, California. Throughout her life, she worked at Ramona Convent, Mattel Toys, Garcia Tax Services and, Unitek (3M), where she retired from.
Shirley enjoyed music, reading, crocheting, watching Law & Order SVU, NCIS, Little House on the Prairie and The Golden Girls. She loved to eat at Red Robin, Chili’s, Denny’s and Panera. Although she didn’t do much in the last years of her life, she enjoyed traveling.
Shirley is survived by her six children: Manuel Solis, Daniel Solis, Shirley Romero, Francine Solis, Patricia Pimentel and James Solis; 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren, all residing in Southern California.
A viewing and rosary will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Ingold Funeral Chapel, 8277 Juniper Avenue, Fontana, California 92335. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m., with rosary and scripture service to begin at 7:00 p.m. A mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church in Rancho Cucamonga and internment will be at Green Acres Memorial Park in Bloomington, California.
