Veronica Teresa Armijo was born on August 23, 1954 in Los Angeles, CA to Cipriano Alfonso and Marie Armijo. She was the third of eight children. To her siblings Maria, Dolores, Patricia, Cipriano, Rita, Angela and Michael, she was known as Betty.
Betty attended and graduated from Artesia High School. As a young adult, she studied the art of Tae Kwon Do. Her studies and devotion to the art lead her to acquire her Red Belt.
Betty was blessed with six handsome sons; Ruben, Adrian, Aaron, Paul, Trevor and Kaelen. She loved them and was very proud of her boys. Betty had a talent for making clothes and often dressed her sons in her handmade shirts and overalls.
When Betty was a young wife and mother, she and her older sister Maria, worked together in ministry. Joined at the hip, these sisters would gather their families to collect food and clothing to transport to some of Mexico’s less fortunate families. Along with their parents and a few close friends, Betty and Maria made the trip to Tijuana for many years.
Deep discussion and one on one Bible studies were had between the sisters. From time to time, they’d coordinate a group Bible study over lunch or dinner with family and friends. They enjoyed learning from each other.
Betty had a heart for children. She developed a love and strong passion for working with abandoned and foster children in the Bay Area. She was the program Director’s Assistant at Alameda County’s Independent Living Skills Program. Betty reached countless children and was instrumental in changing their lives.
Betty was a hairdresser by trade and enjoyed her work for nearly 30 years. Like any girl, she loved getting dolled up. She had an appreciation for fashion and accessories. Betty's youthful, contemporary appearance included a bright scarf or a shiny something.
Betty loved her family and often showed her adoration with a thoughtful trinket. She relished conversations with her sisters or nieces and enjoyed catching up with them. Betty had an inquisitive nature and welcomed serious discussions about life. Family get-togethers were important to Betty. Her humor and dry, quick wit was a quality everyone encouraged. The laughter she shared with those around her cultivated an atmosphere of amusement.
Most recently, Betty enjoyed hand-made candles, soaps, jewelry and small gifts for her grandchildren. She sold her candles and hand-made items under the business name Belisama, which means “the bright one”.
She was also a huge lover of music and had an immense love for Golden Age Hollywood films.
Betty loved the Lord and was a born again Christian. On July 30, 2021, Betty made Heaven her home. She is survived by her six sons Ruben, Adrian, Aaron, Paul, Trevor and Kaelen; her grandchildren Angel, Ruby, Jade, Sage, Isaiah, Cory, Julian, Alice, Karlita, Reyann, Chris and Stephanie; siblings Maria, Pat, Cipi, Rita, and Angie as well as a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones. She is preceded in death by her parents Cipi and Marie Armijo and siblings Dolores and Mike. Betty will be remembered for the loving Mom, Grandma, Abby (short for abuela), sister, aunt and friend that she was.
John 11:25-27
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” 27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”
